You want to support the award of the 13th pension, but not everyone would receive it

The Ministry of Social Security and Labor (SADM) proposes to approve in principle the proposal of the members of the last term of office of Seimas Vanda Kravčionok and Zbignev Jedinskis to pay the pension 13, but proposes to differentiate it according to income, by about 90 thousand. people receive additional benefits: state pensions, rent (on average 63 to 1306 euros).

The Ministry also proposes to give up the condition of living in Lithuania, to link the amount of the thirteenth pension with the indexed indicator or the basic amount, and to establish the conditions under which it would not be paid.

At the same time, it is proposed to clarify the denomination “thirteenth pension”, as this increases the expectation of a thirteenth pension equal to the normal pension.

The ministry proposes including this pension in a new law on lump sum beneficiaries of social security pensions and social assistance benefits, which was not approved in May. It is proposed to consider the draft bill together with the state budget for 2022, as this will require around 180 million. euros.

It is proposed to pay the thirteenth pension annually from December of the following year. The initiators of the amendments estimate that it will receive around 600 thousand. people, they say, would help reduce social exclusion.

The outgoing Minister of Social Security and Labor, Linas Kukuraitis, has said that the decision on the legalization of the thirteenth pension should be taken by the new Seimas.

Acting Finance Minister Vilius Šapoka previously warned that pension number 13 would need up to 200 million. euros. According to him, the state in the current situation should avoid additional long-term financial obligations.

The opposition at the time called the idea of ​​a thirteenth pension an electoral stunt. President Gitanas Nausėda describes the thirteenth pension as an untenable decision.

The Seimas began considering the possibility of legalizing the 13th pension in October and intended to consider amendments on November 10, but was asked for a government conclusion.
