Kostas Kaukas was born in 1928. January 28 in Duselninkai, Alytus County. 1955 graduated from Vilnius University with a degree in journalism. He worked in the editorial office of the newspaper “Tiesa”, in the ELTA telegram agency, as editor of the Pabradė district newspaper “Darbo emberus”, as a correspondent for the Tauragė district newspaper “Tarybinis farmer”, in 1974-1981. – Editor of the weekly “Statybininkas žodis” of Klaipėda Construction Installation Organization, worked on Lithuanian television and radio, 1990 In the newsroom of “Passenger from Klaipedos”. Since 1980 he was a member of the Lithuanian Writers Union.
He has published more than fifty books. He wrote humorous and columnaries, satirical stories, and tragicomic short stories. 1975 The first book of K. Kaukas, a collection of satirical tales “Sighs of giants”, later a satirical tale “Greater Than Yourself” (198) was published. The collection of humors “That or not that” (1991), “Parasitology” (1992), “Men and women of power” (2000), “The prophecies of Queen Mikalda are fulfilled – Fiction is cut!” (2007) are still satires, parodies, highlighting, making known the pains and anguishes of society. K. Kaukas was scratching the truth off his shoulder and his laugh was certainly not a polite insult. He wrote with full voice: in the stories Musei better (1988), Lessons from the Dead (2001), Drug Addicts (2002), Caiaphas – The gift of the devil (2017), he covered painful, almost insurmountable topics. And he distributed his talent to the children: “Lecciones de Bestias” (1992), “Cuervo Blanco Eigua” (1997). K. Kaukas spoke openly to the children, as he did to himself.
The writer welcomed the year of independence while actively working in Sąjūdis, according to a report by the Lithuanian Writers Union. He compiled the book Sąjūdis in Klaipėda (1998), a journalistic book on the 20th anniversary of Sąjūdis, etc., and helped create the Encyclopedia of Lithuania Minor. 1989 K. Kaukas received the Ieva Simonaitytė literary award.
