Loss of taste and smell contributed a second time

The Vilnius resident said he first fell ill in mid-April this year.

“It all started with a strong intestinal pain, this is my weak point. There was also a stuffy nose, a sore throat and a mild temperature of 37.2 to 37.3 degrees, which lasted for about two weeks, and then dropped to 35 degrees for a few days with a couple of servings.

I didn’t feel too bad, but I struggled with a cough for a long time. I took three packets of cough medicine (two, the same, one, different medicine), at first it seemed like the airways were clearing, the cough got wet but then it got dry again and the chest felt like a chest. It took me about a month to fully recover ”, recalled the interlocutor.

At that time, it was not yet possible to take a COVID-19 test for cold symptoms, they were performed only on returnees or who had contact with returnees from abroad, so there was also no obligation to isolate it. Still, the woman suspected she was suffering from the new coronavirus. After a cold he always has a runny nose, and in this case there was no runny nose, but all the symptoms corresponded to those described in COVID-19. So the family decided to isolate themselves and work from home.

The low temperature of 37.2 to 37.3 degrees lasted for about two weeks and then dropped to 35 degrees for a few days.

By the way, all the family members were sick at that time. First of all, the symptoms appeared in the child – a high temperature increased. Mom suspects that he was infected in the sanatorium they had just returned from. She soon became ill herself and then became a man. The latter, like the boy, also had a fever.

About 2 to 3 months ago, less than five months after the onset of the disease, when antibody tests became available, the woman screened on her own initiative. Speculation that antibodies were found in his blood was confirmed, indicating that he had been in contact with COVID-19.

“The current sequence of symptoms was almost the same. It all started with intestinal pain, which made me see a doctor, although I immediately thought: it only hurt a lot when I was sick in the spring. The next day when other symptoms appeared, sore throat, sneezing, I realized that a test was needed, which came back positive. This time there was a mild runny nose for two days, but I didn’t have a strenuous cough. It’s true, and then it didn’t appear right away.

Unlike the first time, the senses of taste and smell disappeared. Now when I eat, I feel sweet, bitter, spicy, salty, but I couldn’t name what I was eating: jam, syrup, or anything else. I don’t smell anything, although the day before, before losing my sense of smell, it had just intensified, the smell of soap, with which I always wash my hands, became impossible, “said the interlocutor.

The woman has been ill for a week and lives in the same space with her family, however neither the boy nor the man developed symptoms of COVID-19, although a recent antibody test for the man was negative.
