Recently, Lithuanian airports have been recording situations where passengers wait to enter the plane with homemade masks or masks created by various designers, but they have not been admitted. In this case, passengers must return and purchase medical masks at the airport, the press release said.
Lithuanian airport representatives note that airlines apply different rules for the use of masks, but more often surgical (medical) masks and valveless FFP-type respirators are suitable for use on airplanes.
Other types of protective equipment, such as face masks, FFP-type respirators with valves, scarves, shawls, and self-made or uniquely designed masks, are not suitable in-flight and can prevent passengers from getting on the plane.
“When passengers are warned that they are wearing inappropriate personal protective equipment, Lithuanian airport employees try to warn and report that access to the aircraft is only possible with the appropriate safety masks and indicate where to buy them. In any case, we always strive to ensure that passengers do not feel any inconvenience, so we recommend that you find out before the flight what specific mask use policy the respective airline applies, “says Rasa Petraitienė, Head of the Department of Management of the Passenger Experience at Lithuanian airports.
