“It just came to our attention then. That quick rush to the festivities to the reunions. (…) One infected person is enough, then we have dozens of high-contact people, we tested them all and then we found a dozen. That’s right how the disease spreads, “Veryga told reporters on the Seimas on Thursday.

“The virus is in Lithuania. The threat is nowhere to be found …. You still need to be careful, have certain tools,” he added.

On the last day, 19 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Lithuania, which is the highest number of confirmed daily infections in the last month.

The Minister does not rule out the possibility that local quarantine may be issued in some individual settlements due to the threat of spread of the coronavirus.

The virus is in Lithuania. The threat is nowhere to be found … It is still necessary to be careful, to have certain tools.

“Although it has been decided to abandon quarantine across the country, I have already mentioned that it may be necessary to quarantine certain locations. Until now, there has been no such need,” the minister said.

According to A.Veryga, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, one should not rush to organize celebrations, larger gatherings.

“It just came to our attention then. Clearly, we can see and understand how difficult it is for society to handle it, because everyone is in a state of tension and anger, it is difficult to be in that regime,” he said.

In Lithuania, a total of 1,752 people were infected with the coronavirus. Currently, 296 people still suffer from the infectious disease, and 1,372 have recovered.

74 people have died since COVID-19, and ten more have died from other causes.
