The Lithuanian Highway Administration (LAKD) is preparing to repair the viaduct that connects the Via Baltica highway with the entrance road to Kaunas. It’s a particularly busy transportation hub, so there will be additional concerns during repairs.
The Marvelė Viaduct connects the A5 road and Užnemunės street in Kaunas. This viaduct is especially intensive, because it is convenient to reach the center of Kaunas from the Via Baltica highway.
“The Lithuanian Highway Administration carries out inspections of all structures. Based on their results, the condition of the structures is determined and a decision is made on the repair of the structure,” LAKD representatives told the newspaper.
It is not yet clear exactly when the work will begin. According to LAKD representatives, the technical project for the viaduct reform is currently being completed. After your experience and approval of the project, a contest will be announced. Then the duration and cost of the job will be clear. They are expected to be available later this year.

However, it is already clear that congestion will not be avoided. This viaduct has a constant flow of traffic, it is convenient to reach the center of Kaunas from the A5 road. So when the traffic node is handled, the bandwidth will be significantly reduced. It is being considered that cars will be able to circulate in a narrow lane with speed limits.
During the repair, traffic on the viaduct will be restricted, but the works will be carried out without interrupting traffic.
“During the repair, traffic on the viaduct will be restricted, but the works will be carried out without interrupting traffic,” LAKD said.
However, drivers should plan their trips and, if possible, choose other entrances from Via Baltica to Kaunas. This will avoid congestion.
Since the works also enter the territory of the city, they have not yet been approved by the Kaunas City Council. This topic is scheduled for the next Council meeting.
