The Klaipėda City Council meeting held on Friday focused on the new pop-up ship with underwater wings, which will sail to the residents of the port city on the Klaipėda – Nida water route next summer.
“The ship will be of the ‘Rocket’ type and will travel this route once or twice a day during the warm season,” said Deputy Mayor Arūnas Barbšys.
The shipowners themselves approached the Klaipėda City Municipality, expressing their desire to provide this service. “They also organize water routes in the Nemunas from Kaunas to Nida,” said the deputy.
The meeting discussed where this boat could be moored to make it convenient and safe for passengers to get on and off. “Since the banks of the river Dane have been handed over to the dealer, we hope that a joint solution will be found on this issue. It was said that the ship could be in the North Cape,” said A. Barbšys.
People are expected to start using this service from June. “It is very important for the city and we would very much like this route to be done with the help of this vehicle. We hope that the situation of the pandemic does not get worse at that time and does not change the plans, “said the interlocutor.
After reaching Nida on this water trip, it will be possible to sail to Kaunas after transferring to the ship “Raketa”.
The ship that will operate the Klaipeda – Nida route will have capacity for 48 passengers.
It is not yet clear what the name of the new ship will be. According to N. Šilgalis, this question is left to the followers.
“It just came to our attention then. There are still many interests in the name, so we do not want to reveal it, because it has not been fully decided,” said N. Šilgalis.
Vandens kelias herself applied to the Klaipėda City Municipality and expressed her desire to provide such a service. The company also organizes water routes on the Nemunas from Kaunas to Nida.
“The boat is very fast because it has hydrofoils and skates to ski.
This vehicle can see speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
Therefore, this ship will sail a little over half an hour from Klaipeda to Nida, ”said N. Šilgalis.
