While reporters were telling Trump about the achievements of the American economy, a Secret Service employee approached him at the same time and said something to the president.
He asked what was happening, listened to a brief explanation and, without saying a word, left the press conference.
Trump was followed by members of his administration, including Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
The US television station NBC News reported on Twitter that the president, who returned to the conference a few minutes later, announced that he had been shot in the White House.
“The United States Secret Service has asked me to leave the conference room while she is dealing with the incident of the shooting at the White House,” he said.
Trump said law enforcement officers shot the suspect and apparently wounded him. According to the president, no one was hurt anymore.
“There was an actual shooting and someone was taken to the hospital,” he said.
Trump said an agent escorted him to Ovaluji’s office. The incident has locked up the White House.
The president praised the Secret Service’s work for keeping it up.
