Inspection officials visited the site and discovered that the Range Rover SUV had entered Lake Antavilis. The car was not damaged, fuel, oil or other contaminants did not enter the lake or shore.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the person driving the car in accordance with article 264, paragraph 1, of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Lithuania, reported the Department of Environmental Protection.
The driver of the SUV violated the water protection requirements. For violation of the regime for the protection and use of surface water protection zones or coastal protection zones, a person faces a warning or a fine of 30 to 140 euros.
Police officers also wrote a report to the person for violating traffic rules. The driver (born 1998) told authorities that he probably forgot to apply the parking brake or something went wrong. He only realized his SUV was drowning when he heard the alarm.
We are grateful to citizens and they can report environmental violations by calling 112 or calling the AAD Reception Service at (8 5) 273 2995.
