The commissioners highlighted that it was an excellent model for specialized companies (maintenance of communication networks, electricity or gas), as well as for public services, such as the police or the army. The closed body can carry extremely large non-standard loads, overcome rough roads or even off-road, and at the same time enjoy all the comforts of a car.
The four-wheel drive version offers Peugeot smart equipment, so this model has the most important systems of an advanced passenger car, including emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic lights, driver fatigue monitoring and more.
Tall but stable
Jurgis Paplaitis, a member of the commission for the best commercial car competition, pointed out that the Peugeot Partner cargo van prepared by Dangel has become an exclusive van. The model is equipped with a four-wheel drive that works with a viscous coupling.
“When the wheels on the front axle are turned, the hydraulic coupling locks and the torque is transmitted to the rear wheels. It is a classic system ”, said the interlocutor.
The driver can choose one of three modes: two-wheel drive; automatic, where torque is transmitted to the rear axle only when necessary; and permanent four-wheel drive.
For the sales manager of the commercial vehicle modification company and member of the 2020 Commercial Vehicles commission Karolis Šimkus, the Peugeot Partner 4 x 4 Dangel became the biggest surprise in this year’s competition. He appreciated the off-road capabilities of this model and even questioned the advantage of the pick-up. 205 millimeters of ground clearance and a permanent gearbox activated with differential lock turned the truck into a true SUV.
“The weight of such a truck is noticeably less than that of any pickup truck and it is equipped with special tires, so it is still possible to argue which would be better off-road or off-road with an additional weight of 300 kilograms in the cargo compartment, “shared the interviewee.
More attractive to drivers
During the tests, K. Šimkus was very surprised by the stability of Peugeot. The car did not jump at all and did not rock, although even visually it was seen that this model was much taller than the standard version. The commercial transportation expert was a bit concerned that the cabin might be disturbed by noise, but was convinced that he was concerned for no reason.
“It just came to our attention then. This French company, known as a company of strong professionals, has long been preparing models with higher performance,” said the interlocutor. Duge has been developing reliable four-wheel drive models for Peugeot since the beginning. 1980s and has produced more than 22,000 vehicles to date.
In his opinion, no less important is the fact that the 4×4 version Dangel inherited all the interior equipment of the standard model: it is equipped with a compact steering wheel, a modern dashboard with the latest multimedia equipment.
“This is not one of those old commercial cars that was not a pleasure to drive, because they are designed exclusively for work. The aim of these models is only to keep costs as low as possible and to make the most of space. “Peugeot is not like that, this model is also focused on the main consumer”, commented a representative of the company.
Mr. Paplaitis was also surprised by a good quality sound system that would not embarrass many cars.
More customization options
According to K. Šimkus, another advantage of the higher-performance van is cheaper operation and easier adaptation of the closed cargo compartment to special needs. When you buy a truck, you still have to think about what to cover the rear and what to do when loading extremely large items that will not fit.
“Some loads need to be protected from the rain, others can be sensitive to changes in temperature, a closed body solves this. It is also possible to install a mobile workshop in the van, these advantages are often useful ”, said the specialist.
A company spokesperson was surprised that the much taller and more walkable truck retained its excellent handling characteristics. He even told other members of the competition committee that if time were counted during tests at the Šiauliai racetrack, Peugeot could cover the route faster.
Dangel’s off-road Peugeot Partner is equipped with a 1.5-liter Blue HDi diesel engine with 131 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Average fuel consumption (according to WLTP) is 6.1 l / 100 km. The van can carry cargo weighing up to 802 kilograms.
