The AB Vakarų laivų gamykla (VLG) group of companies is completing the implementation of a quarter-century strategic plan to repair Panamax, Postpanamax and Aframax-type vessels. The first floating dock for this purpose, which is the largest in the Baltic States and has a carrying capacity of 33,000 tons, has already been built at its permanent site. It will accept the repair of the first ship as soon as the final preparations have been completed.
Arnoldas Šileika, CEO of the VLG Group, emphasizes that the company is finally opening the door to a completely new market, where many more opportunities await. After the completion of the first phase of the Malku Bay infrastructure development project, the VLG Group’s ship repair capacity will increase several times and will contribute significantly to the growth of the group’s sales, which is very important in the slowdown in the global economy.

According to him, the Malkai Bay infrastructure development project is currently among the priority projects of the Port Authority. Dredging of the bay at 14.5m has been completed and the bunks used by companies operating in the bay are being rebuilt. After renovation of docks 135-136, the first stage of rebuilding the company’s leased docks will be completed. It is also necessary to implement a second phase aimed at developing and improving maritime transport in Malku Bay.
