Under normal Lithuanian climatic conditions (SKN, 1991–2020 average), an average of 53 mm of precipitation falls in Lithuania in May. Therefore, rainfall in May this year was almost double the multi-year average. By the way, the total precipitation on May 10 was greater than the SKN. The abundance of rainfall was particularly pronounced in the first and third decades, when the average rainfall in Lithuania was 2.9 and 2.2, respectively.

Although the average precipitation in Lithuania was reached in May, the territorial distribution of precipitation was very uneven. It was very rainy in the east, southeast, northeast and central Lithuania. Meanwhile, in the west and northwest of Lithuania, the amount of precipitation was much closer to perennial norms. As May was not only very rainy, but also cooler than usual (1.4 ° C below SKN), evaporation was less, allowing accumulated excess moisture to last longer.
