“Nitrogen dioxide for 1 hour. the maximum concentration exceeded the limit value (200 µg / m³) in Vilnius, Klaipėda, Panevėžys, Šiauliai, Mažeikiai.

Air quality in Lithuania is poor not only due to local pollution sources (energy companies, individual home heating equipment, transportation), emissions, but also the transfer of pollutants from other countries, ”the agency writes. .

Vilma Bimbaitė, representative of the Air Quality Assessment Division of the Environmental Protection Agency, informed BNS that similar air pollution will persist for several days.

“The forecasts are not very comforting yet, because the polluted air mass will not disappear at least until the weekend. Apparently, we will have more or less that contamination throughout the week ”, said the specialist.

According to her, air pollution has increased due to thankless masses of dirty air across Europe.

“Practically all over Europe, the masses and concentrations of dirty air are only increasing. The meteorological conditions are unfavorable for propagation, there is no wind, ”said V. Bimbaitė.
