“Last year, we also had an unprecedented warm June, and in 2019 the all-time June record of 35.7 degrees was set at the Kaišiadorys weather station. So June has been giving us those flashes of heat for the third year in a row. I must also say that last night also entered the history of meteorology as the hottest night. The meteorologist also promises new records.

June is record heat and July, on the contrary, was cooler, although it is generally considered the warmest month of the year. If tradition continues, July will still be cooler, but that does not mean it will be cold. So far, seasonal forecasts are problematic … Sometimes some days can be very rainy, they overshadow the remaining driest days, and we say that the rains are the normal, but they are very unevenly distributed, especially during the summer. Similarly, with regard to temperature, “says I. Marcinonienė.
Losses increase and amounts increase: last year it exceeded one million euros
The heat that has returned to Lithuania is usually always replaced by heavy rains and storms. Meteorologists predict rain over the long weekend, on Saint John’s Day, so insurance expert Artūras Juodeikis urges not to forget the most important safety requirements: in summer, losses from storms, lightning and rain increase several times compared to other stations.
“Our data shows that summer storms cause a lot of losses, and comparing 2020 and 2019, we see that last year the losses were even three times more than in previous years,” says Artūras Juodeikis, Director of the Claims Department at Lietuvos Draudimas.
The insurance company estimates that there were eight major storms in the country last summer, during which the property of the population suffered the most.
“Last year, the amounts of the losses were really impressive: they exceeded the million euros that we paid in three summer months. The biggest loss was suffered by the client, who had the roof of the house torn off, the interior was damaged , he was paid 4 thousand euros ”, says Artūras Juodeikis.

The expert says that the average amount of losses during the summer season in 2020 was almost 490 euros and this average is several tens of euros higher than in 2019. A representative of Lietuvos Draudimas says that most of the losses are caused by hail or rain when there is a strong wind. Then the terraces, the walls of the houses, the greenhouses, the cars on which the trees overflow are damaged.
“It is also important not to forget to tie the outdoor furniture, the lighter items to the outside and that belong to a stationery article, or it is best to carry everything inside. A strong wind raises pots, trampolines, outdoor furniture, which can knock down the windows of a house, damage cars, those in the neighborhood, ”says the Lietuvos Draudimas expert.
Don’t think it will always be hot
