The General Assistance Center (BPC), which shared the reminder, warned that as of October 1, when calling the old emergency numbers, residents will hear a diversion that the number is no longer in use and be told that call 112.
“These days, we often get questions about how our work will change from October 1, when there will be a 112 emergency phone number in Lithuania. Will our workload increase? Will there be enough staff? Will people have to Wait longer when you need urgent help from the fire department, the police or the doctors?
We can assure everyone that NOTHING WILL CHANGE IN OUR WORK: the workload will remain the same, we will have enough employees, so we will work in a stable and reliable way.
How can this be explained? Only all calls to the old emergency numbers 01, 101, 011, 02, 102, 022, 03, 103, 033 are already routed to the General Help Center. They are received and answered in the same way as calls to 112.
The biggest change awaits the Lithuanian population: those who are used to calling emergency services on the above numbers. If you need an emergency, they should remember to dial 112.
What if stressed people still dial one of the numbers above? Then they will hear a voice message informing them that the number is not used and that 112 should be called, ”announces BPC on the social network.
