Since the beginning of the year, more than 4,000 people have entered Lithuania illegally. migrants, mainly from Iraq. Some of the new arrivals, around 2.7 thousand, applied for asylum.

As previously announced, some immigrants from Lithuania decided to leave voluntarily and used the support of 300 euros, others were sent against their will.

But who supervises that migrants who leave voluntarily to leave actually reach their country of origin? After all, there are no direct flights to, for example, Iraq from Lithuania.

A.Kislovas admitted that people who leave voluntarily are not accompanied.

There is nothing one hundred percent in life, there is always some probability.

“There is nothing 100% in life, there is always some possibility,” they asked if that meant that migrants could pretend to leave but simply not board and escape to the second plane to their country of origin.

Lithuania does not receive information from their countries of origin on whether migrants who leave voluntarily arrive in their country.

However, according to the interlocutor, it is not difficult to know if a migrant has reached their country of origin:

“You have a ticket and you fly. You can see if you have used an additional transfer ticket.”

On the other hand, according to the director of the center, if the person did not get on the plane, they would most likely be returned to Lithuania.

According to the interlocutor, Iraqi citizens are sent home via Istanbul.

Already as a result of the migratory crisis, there were no cases in which a person did not get on the second plane, according to the director of the center.

However, in the history of the center, according to him, there have been cases in which a person expelled from the country disappeared on the way.

According to A.Kislovas, some migrants have documents, if they do not exist, they are issued a travel document.

“A consular mission is approaching and travel documents are issued to anyone who wants to go to their country of origin if we are talking about Iraq,” he said.

You can be accompanied to the country of origin.

When a migrant refuses to leave, he is forcibly expelled, accompanied by an escort.

“He can be escorted to the Lithuanian state border, he can be escorted to the transit country, he can be escorted to the country of origin.” There is an approved procedure to assess risk factors and make appropriate decisions based on this, ”explained the head of the URC when deciding where to accompany a person.

The Interior Ministry recently reported that 176 migrants who had entered Lithuania illegally through Belarus had already left Lithuania voluntarily or had been deported.

During a visit to Lithuania last week, Iraqi diplomats helped organize travel documents and paperwork for a further 63 migrants to return to their homeland.
