J.V.Žukas symbolizes a problem
Speaking about Jonas Vytautas Žukas, who chaired the President’s National Security Group, V. Valentinavičius stated that, in his opinion, this adviser was a typical executive politician who satisfied the President’s need to slightly duplicate the Government’s activities.
“If G. Nausėda eliminates said adviser, which symbolizes an unnecessary tendency towards the executive power, it would mean that the president admits that he is not very good,” said the interlocutor.

The political scientist is convinced that relations between the presidency and the executive branch would be improved if the presidency maintained the strategic level and did not yield to the issuance of detailed instructions or small legislative initiatives, which is especially typical for the first year of G. Nausėda.
However, V.Valentinavičius pointed out that we do not know the real reasons for J.V.Žukas’ departure: they may be banal.
For example, a corruption scandal involving Valdas Sutkus. Last year, when G.Nausėda was the only presidential candidate, V. Sutkus, who now has serious problems with the police, mediated the meeting between G.Nausėda and then-Commander of the Armed Forces J.V.Žukas.
If one error is corrected, the second must be corrected
According to the political scientist, if the president corrects the mistakes by saying goodbye to J.V.Žukas, he should correct his other serious mistake: the presidency’s approach to internal politics and the promise of a new political culture.
“It is a mistake not to recognize that the key to democracy is not cohesion but conflicts over values. Coherence often hides cynicism and reconciliation with poor policies,” he said, adding that the search for global peace in internal politics leads to a contradictory attitude: on the one hand, it is recognized that political standards are breaking the bottom,.

“We close our eyes to violators of the rules: J.Narkevičius, R.Karbauskis, S.Skvernelis himself with his asphalt. It is said: we will work with them. According to V.Valentinavičius, P.Mačiulis will probably have contributed to the agreement adopted on election night, according to which the “peasants” supported G.Nausėdas with other rulers.
“The new political culture has been designed to explain why the President continues to support those in power. Not only during the elections, but for a year we have been seeing that G. Nausėda stubbornly refuses to enter at least a little bit more conflict with the rulers, ”he said.
V.Valentinavičius does not associate the changes in the presidency with the fact that the president read the annual report just a week ago. There were cases when Dalia Grybauskaitė left the presidency after the annual report.
“A language writer is not the departure of several team members. I think it is more related not to the annual report, but to the fact that the president’s popularity dropped 15 percent in the Vilmorus poll. This may have made the president think very seriously about presiding. If that happened, correcting those two mistakes would require sacrifices. But for me, A. Zabarauskas would not be enough, he would have to resign P.Mačiulis, “he said.
On Thursday, the presidency confirmed the news published in the media about the resignation of three of G. Nausėda’s top advisers and named who would replace two of them. The National Security Group will be chaired by Darius Kuliešius, the current adviser to the President, instead of V. Žukas. The education, science and culture group will be replaced by historian Jolanta Karpavičienė in place of Sonata Šulce, and the new head of the Communication group, to replace outgoing A. Zabarauskas, will be announced in July.
