Vilnius’s gift to educators did not please everyone: it is more worth varnishing nails

As P. Vaitekėnas informed Delfi, about 20 thousand people will be able to use this service in Vilnius. For employees in the education sector, the gift will go not only to teachers, but also to other people who work in the field.

“It will definitely be such a gift and it is tentatively planned to be from October. A fascinating coincidence, because October is also Teacher’s Day. Since around 20 thousand people work in Vilnius. Employees of educational institutions, it will cost them to all around 5 million. Eur ”, he commented.

I would like an adequate salary

However, not all teachers were delighted with such a gift. Some have commented on social networks to get a better salary supplement.

“Why is it difficult to pay a supplement equivalent to a euro bill? Are we just moving from one government pocket to another and has a vision been created to support education?” Asked one of the educators.

Another teacher joked that she would soon start sharing grits and that no one would be coming to school to continue working.

“How beggar – They are 5 Eur for a consultation, it is a ticket, which gives a lot of money on the occasion of September 1. Then crying because there is no one to work for. Nowadays, it is better to varnish your nails than to be a teacher, taking into account the hourly wage, ”she assured.

This opinion was shared by more educators, who called the initiative absurd and demanded more adequate salaries.

“That they do not give, but that their salaries increase. I will buy it myself, if necessary,” said another teacher.

“Joy is joy, but it is not clear at all, maybe from October we will all switch to remote control. After all, if at least one child in the class gets sick, what 7-10 teachers will have to isolate … That would have given those tickets at least from September. Maybe we can still take advantage of that, and now it’s unclear … “wrote another.

However, those who called not to complain at least once, but to thank the educators for the municipality’s attention also responded.

Lux! I will definitely take advantage! Not every day, but definitely useful. Somehow from the comments, the impression is that even if you gave a million gifts, there would still be something to hold on to, because a lot of tension and anger has built up. And I understand that there are many problems in the educational system, we want different salaries and things like that, but that negativity makes up for that gift, ”said a well-intentioned educator.

Call it a welcome initiative

“The donated horse is not looked between the teeth”, commented Andrius Navickas, president of the Union of Educators of Lithuania (LŠDP).

He said the initiative hadn’t been heard until now, but if implemented, it probably wouldn’t be bad.

“Maybe we’ll talk about it later, but most of the teachers are on vacation right now, so we haven’t heard any comments from them,” Navick said.

The LSSP president also noted that he had not heard of any salary increases in the new school year.

According to Egidijus Milešinas of the Lithuanian Trade Union for Education and Science (LŠMPS), all incentives are good and this initiative from the Vilnius municipality should be welcomed.

“For example, there are other municipalities that pay fuel for teachers who go to rural areas. I think there is nothing wrong with such a municipal initiative, “he said.

Responding to teachers’ claims that supplements to locally provided free tickets would be better paid, he commented that municipalities do not set them.

“Supplements are needed, but they are not set by the municipality, they are not paid with municipal budgets. The government’s competence is already here, because the law sets the salary and at the same time allocates the funds, ”he explained.

Milešin, however, expressed fear that as coronavirus numbers rise, it is unclear what those new school years will look like, as contact education was also promised last year, but the larger schools had to function. mixed.
