Vilnius GMP employees complain to manager and urge municipality to take action

Several dozen GMP union members gathered together with the municipality on Friday chanted “Zdislavai, get out.”

GMP employees also carried posters “Just where is the ambulance?”, “The municipality covers the corrupt GMP director”, “We demand the resignation and personal responsibility of Skvarciany”, “Competent ambulance – for residents, competent manager – ambulance”.

“We are dissatisfied with the actions of the director: discrimination, illiteracy and leadership. There is no focus on service,” Tadeusz Rodz, union president and former GMP leader, told BNS.

He ran Vilnius GMP for ten years from 2007 to 2017.

Rodz said he did not intend to head the corps again, but would take over as chief if appointed.

“I did that job honestly and the results were visible, but that’s not the point,” said the GMP doctor.

He also claimed that the protest was intended to attract the attention of the authorities; complaints were also sent to the municipality and the ministry.

“And we appeal to the ministry to make sure that there is no arbitrariness about the money that the ministry, for example, allocates,” Rodz said.

“We need normal conditions, we want quality work for the population. The current manager does not care if the municipality looks at it, it is,” he said.

Employees demand better working conditions

Rita Tilindienė has been working in the ambulance for 40 years, says she is not satisfied with the current manager’s optimization plans; According to her, three years ago the former employees were fired and hired “on their own.”

The midwife also complains that the hardware is not being updated and the authorities are negligent.

“It just came to our notice then. Now the cardiographs are failing, the printers are failing. Nine printers were broken. Ask for them, says handwriting,” the 60-year-old doctor told BNS.

Virginijus Lagūnas, a 39-year-old GMP driver, says the competence of the institution’s director, Z. Skvarciany, is lacking.

“It demands our experience as an employee, but we lack it from the manager himself. There are already processes underway in which we can no longer be silent, ”an employee of the institution told BNS.

According to him, the current administration is not concerned with perishable equipment, and it has also been affected by “the money that is going to one side.”

“The car equipment breaks down and is not repaired. There are other things that are happening: a variety of construction, money is going to the side,” he said.

“And with the cars we drive to the end until it collapses. There are things like ECG machines, they also need to be updated, ”he said.

He claimed to want another manager because work at the old one was better organized.

Božena Burinskienė, a 30-year-old GMP doctor, said she wanted the authority of the institution to change.

“It just came to our attention then. Avoid helping us, we are not listened to at all. Maybe at least we will pay attention to ourselves in protest,” said the paramedic.

The woman says she has also encountered bullying, but has not received help from management.

“I asked for help and I didn’t get that help,” he said.

The municipality clarifies the situation

Povilas Poderskis, director of the Vilnius city municipal administration, told BNS that the municipality is clarifying the situation.

“We take it very seriously, we have taken action. The complaints are being investigated, we will have a response on the 26th and we will make decisions and conclusions ”, said P. Poderskis.

According to him, serious complaints were received.

“We will review and evaluate everything, but the allegations are questionable,” said the managing director.

Mr. Podersky also said that three investigations were underway on data protection, legal issues and staffing.

ZNS Skvarciany was unable to reach BNS on Friday.

Vilnius GMP currently employs more than 450 people, and union leader T. Rodz says that about half of them belong to the union.

Mr. Rodz was removed from the position of GMP manager in 2017, the day before the end of his term, the reasons for the dismissal were identified as serious violations of his job duties, explained the dismissal in court.

Z. Skvarciany was placed second in the competition for the manager announced by the municipality, but became manager because Saulius Deveikis, who was ranked first, resigned.
