The police department reported that on Sunday, around 5:20 p.m., the monument on the Jewish street was noted to have been damaged.
Vilnius County Police Representative Julia Samorokovskaya told BNS that the monument, filled with unclear liquid, had been reported by a guide.
“A report has been received that the Vilnius Gaon monument may have been flooded with acid over a two-day period. The guide announced,” said Samorokovskaya.
According to the Vilnius police representative, a pre-trial investigation for hate speech was launched, and the material damage will be rectified later.
“The monument has been damaged by public incitement to hatred and incitement against an ethnic religious group,” said Samorokovskaya.
In late June, the monument was flooded with light-colored liquid, and the pre-trial investigation into the incident is still ongoing. According to Samorokovskoya, all the initial steps have already been taken in this study.
The monument to Dr. Cemach Sabadad, standing on Mėsinių street in the old town, was also damaged this time.
