“I was at work yesterday when my son called. Mom says, the neighbor’s son drowned. I ask how things happened here. They say I didn’t see him, but the neighbor came and asked me to help find the boy, “says neighbor Angela.
Both family and neighbors confirm that everything happened in an instant. In general, a quiet child would not run around the area without parental care. And the family is tidy, located in a newly built settlement four years ago. So everyone after this event is shocked.
Those around him wonder how the boy broke up into the pond, because access to it is quite difficult: the passages are covered in bushes and grass.
“It just came to our attention then. They are big enough. The poodle belongs to all three of us. I don’t know how it happened here. He is always with his parents. From what I could see, from what I know, he never walked away from his father didn’t even leave the yard. He felt like he was tied to his father, “Angela says.
This is the third such disaster when a child drowns. True, last year water killed twice as many young lives, up to seven. Firefighters rescue parents to be especially careful with preschool offspring.
“Clearly, the body of water should be self-judging. Evaluate the banks of the reservoir near the house: if they are steep or even if a child falls, there would be an opportunity to stand there. Perhaps there is a possibility of even fencing and come only through the closed fence, ”says the representative of the department Donatas Gurevičius.
A total of 35 compatriots drowned this summer. 22 bodies were removed from the water in June and 13 in July. Mainly in the counties of the main cities. Firefighters and rescuers report that the trends are sad in both the warm weather and in collecting statistics for the entire year: drowning is more frequent this year.
“Compared to last year, there are more people who drowned. Last year it was 69, today it is 80. Perhaps due to the situation that more people stay in Lithuania on vacation. It influences that more people relax together with bodies of water, ”said D. Gurevičius.
Specialists advise tourists not only not to lose sight of their children, but to act accordingly on bodies of water.
First of all, you should not drink alcohol before bathing, as well as choosing official places to bathe with lifeguards.
