Vilija Matačiūnaitė, who was not allowed to board the plane, was outraged by the airlines’ work: an absolute bardard and a lie.

The woman is convinced that she had full access to the flight because she had been allowed to undergo a coronavirus test as soon as she arrived in Cyprus. Of course, the woman was disappointed with the professionalism of the Wizzair airlines, which, according to her, did not even attempt to delve into the problem.

“I was not the only person who was not allowed to board the plane, a family from Šiauliai and others stayed in Lithuania. There were a total of ten people who were denied boarding for the same reason. I don’t know for what purpose they wanted to fly to Cyprus, but my reason is simple: this is the second country where I live.

Before the flight at the gate, we asked to call the Larnaca airport again to find out if we really had no right to fly. They told us: “We will not call, we do not want to damage the reputation of the company. If we put it on a plane, both the company will pay a fine of € 3,000 per person and the company staff who were at the door at that time will have to pay certain fines in person.

The only reason they didn’t want to dig deeper was the fear of damaging their reputation. Apparently they had called and investigated exactly the same case. I told them that the same cases do not exist, each of them is individual. My case is different.

I also did not like the fact that they called the Lithuanian Migration Service to find out if he was actually a resident of Cyprus. After learning here that I had declared my place of residence in Lithuania, I decided to refuse to take me on a flight.

I told them that just having declared my place of residence in Lithuania and not leaving here and continuing to pay taxes does not mean that I am not a resident of Cyprus, where I also pay taxes. So we can collect last year’s tax returns and see which country I paid the most taxes in, ”Vilija told Delfi.

Without permission to fly, the woman did not give up and contacted the Wizzair company with complaints. Unfortunately, the response received was also not gratifying.

“They responded to my factual claim in a completely unprofessional manner. A customer service representative did not even read my letter and simply wrote, “Miss Ma, we called colleagues at the airport and found that you did not have a covid-19 test with you, so you were not allowed to board the plane.” What is the answer here? Then I rewrote the letter, again with a complaint. I also contacted my bank, which sent a request to the airline. If I do not receive a response from them within 50 days, I will automatically be reimbursed for the travel expenses, ”said V. Matačiūnaitė.

Of course, the Lithuanian also repeatedly requested the Cypriot institution, which is responsible for verifying the coronavirus in the event of a flight to a foreign country. After receiving confirmation, she was grimly convinced that, as a resident of Cyprus and entitled to live here, she was not required to sit for the exam in Lithuania.

Not only that, Vilija says that before the flight, Wizzair representatives asked her to show a document proving that she is a resident of Cyprus. However, the woman, in contact with the Cypriot representatives, was convinced that these documents were not necessary at the airport, since the corresponding forms were completed before the flight.

“I told Wizzair employees that I generally do not take documents such as a resident certificate or apartment rental documents anywhere. The Cypriot representatives also assured me that I was not obliged to carry any documents. According to them, everything I had to do was fill out a form in which I had to take into account that I was a resident of the country. They told me clearly that I had to fail and take the exam when I had already arrived in the country, “said the interlocutor to Delfi.

V. Matačiūnaitė has already purchased a new ticket to Cyprus, is preparing for a coronavirus test in Lithuania and hopes to arrive in his favorite country on Friday. “It just came to our attention then. However, I have gathered all the documents and I hope the same butlers will be at the door on Friday,” hopes the woman.

Delfi contacted Wizzair representatives, who apologized for the work of their team members.

“Regulations are changing in each country, so the airline and its groundhandling partners must keep up with rapidly changing rules. Restrictions, regulations and other factors that affect the rights of flights and passengers to fly. they change daily, sometimes even official channels find outdated information.

Whether a passenger can test for coronavirus after flying to another country depends on the rules of the destination country. There is no precise and unified approach. A State requiring a negative coronavirus test may refuse to admit a passenger if it does not provide a negative coronavirus test. In some countries, passengers may take the exam upon arrival in the country, while in others it is required to take the exam before boarding the plane.

The Wizz Air team must follow and comply with ever-changing regulations. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this situation, “said the Wizzair.
