On Monday morning, specialists from the Vilnius State Food and Veterinary Service arrived at the farm in Širvintos. After a few hours of inspection, representatives of the inspection service found that the conditions of keeping the animals were unforgivable.
“We found out that he is cruel to animals and they are going to take them away. Temporary custody will be the responsibility of the municipality. Sanctions will be imposed on the host. What size? And they have cut off their ears, which is not allowed, ”said Leonardas Šmaukšta, representative of the SFVS Vilnius Department.

Gintarė Mockienė, an independent veterinary specialist who also examined the animals, said the images she saw surprised her.
“Housing conditions where there are two huge dogs and there is a path in the aviary for the average dog. It can be seen that the dogs are feeding only now because the bellies are swollen and otherwise the bones are visible. The image is really tragic, “he said.

Interactions with service volunteers on the farm revealed more details about how the animals could have been kept here: a hungry horse attacked to eat dog food, a cow’s head was kept in the barns, a dog, fur, and some dead puppies. they were found in the bag on Monday morning. The volunteers called this place a slaughterhouse.

Algis Ušackas, the owner of the farm, denies some of these stories. Initially refraining from commenting, then the farmer said a little: he does not admit his guilt even through the blackening of the nail.

On Monday afternoon it became clear that the animals in the kennel were confiscated and turned over to the municipality. He is currently drafting cooperation agreements with non-governmental organizations that could take over the care of the animals. So far, it is clear that 12 large and 7 small dogs will be taken from the owner. According to witnesses, the owner keeps the horses together. Their fate is still being decided, the Širvintos district municipality said.
