According to the State Energy Regulatory Council (VERT), the old methodology approved in 2018, according to which the commercial performance of the Baltic countries with Russia and Belarus, with the exception of the Königsberg region, is zero megawatts, must be in force after the start of operations of the Astrava Nuclear Power Plant (CN) on Tuesday.
According to the Council, since the start of operations of the Astrava nuclear power plant on Tuesday, both Lithuanian operators of Litgrid and those of Latvia and Estonia have been applying the 2018 methodology and do not trade with Russia or Belarus.
VERT informed the Baltic operators, the European Commission and the Nord Pool energy exchange that the new tripartite methodology will come into effect only after it has been approved by the regulators of the three countries.
VERT will consult with market participants on the draft of this methodology before November 5. It is not yet clear when it will be discussed in committee.
The Estonian transmission operator Elering announced that electricity trading with Russia via the Latvia-Russia connection, whose bandwidth is almost half that of the Lithuanian-Belarusian connection, will start on November 5.
