One of the most important developments is that the team got a new engine in the center of the body, an extremely low center of gravity and a Toyota car with four-wheel drive.

According to the driver, negotiations on such a car began on the starting day of this year’s Dakar Rally, when representatives from Toyota Gazoo Racing approached the Lithuanian team and said that the team is being monitored by Toyota Corporation.

According to Vanags, he set out to choose a new car and car, which was driven by Fernando Alonso on the Dakar last year. “For pragmatic reasons only, we have chosen a newer technique, although it would be a great honor to drive a legendary Formula 1 driver. With the new car, the team also receives engineering support from Toyota,” said the driver.

The athlete revealed that there is a high probability of seeing Toyota Gazoo Racing top drivers Nasser Al-Attiyah and Giniel De Villiers with even newer teams in Dakar.

The team’s previous car went to the second team, where Edvinas Juškauskas and Aisvydas Paliukėnas will drive. In addition, another white crew will fly under the Team Pitlane flag, driving a Toyota Hilux model that belonged to the team some time ago.

In the 2021 Dakar Rally, B. Vanagas will race with the Portuguese driver Filipe Palmeiro. F. Palmeiro is the second outing for the Lithuanian team.

Although the body lines differ slightly from the latest Inbank Toyota Gazoo Racing Baltics car, the new car’s engineering solutions are significantly more advanced. According to the driver, the big advantage is that the engine position moves from the front to the middle of the car, and the lower center of gravity allows more precise control. “The tire pressure monitoring system provides real-time information on the condition of the tires, which is especially important on the stony tracks of Saudi Arabia,” said Vanagas.

B. Vanagas has not yet driven a car with a new car and is planning tests in Lithuania in the near future. The next training session will take place in Saudi Arabia, where a joint test program with Toyota Gazoo Racing is planned. Getting used to the new car will be necessary not only for the racer, but also for the team of technicians, for whom special training from Toyota Gazoo Racing is planned.
