When asked what is happening in Israel right now, L. Antanavičienė gave a very simple answer: “a delta has occurred”.
“Here is a very short answer: a delta has occurred. As I think it will be similar, in no way do I want to, but more or less we will all inevitably see such an increase. That is what happened in Israel: we returned to normal life. In June Even the use of masks was canceled, they left us alone in medical institutions, but for a couple of weeks we managed to do it.
And even the Government had decided that it was no longer necessary to show even green passports, just go wherever you want, ”said Ambassador L. Antanavičienė about the situation in Israel a few weeks ago.
She said this variety is spreading abundantly among children.
“And after the flights were released, there was much less red tape left. There were only a few imported delta cases one after another, which started to spread, especially among children. And now we have a growing number, the government has taken action. very quickly: the masks have been returned immediately and a test must be carried out at the airports when leaving. (…) There are also the so-called red countries, flights to these countries are prohibited for Israeli citizens, unless they only have the special permission of the Government ”, said L. Antanavičienė.
And those who fly to these countries without a special permit can be fined, amounting to 1,300 euros.

The Lithuanian ambassador to Israel stated that even flights to the “red” countries have been transferred to a completely separate airport terminal. But the panic, according to the interlocutor of the program, is not visible.
“This is the situation we have now, there is no panic. There is a lot of talk in the media about the increase in numbers: on average, about 300 new cases a day. The forecast is that in a week that number could reach 600. But it is said that so far the number of seriously ill and the number of hospitalized patients is not really increasing drastically. And most of these patients are asymptomatic or have a very mild form, ”said the interviewee.
L. Antanavičienė stated on the radio news program “Question of the Day” that the Israeli government says that the number of morbidity will continue and if they get worse, one of the options is to close the country.
And predicting which restrictions and when they will be chosen is difficult.
Lithuania’s ambassador to Israel, L. Antanavičienė, told News Radio that more than half of those infected in the delta are not vaccinated.
“58 percent of those infected with delta are not vaccinated. Clearly, the majority are children. Because children are not vaccinated here, as 82 or 83 percent of adults in Israel are vaccinated. 12 and 16 years have already been vaccinated. That vaccination is not as terribly fast as it was thought. Parents vaccinate their children, but not as fast as adults themselves, “he said.
L. Antanavičienė stated that people are now more relaxed and also look at the rules and restrictions in a relaxed way. Even the instruction to wear protective masks indoors in all indoor areas is sometimes seen through the fingers.
The ambassador told the “Question of the Day” radio news program that, like Lithuania, Israel has a very similar problem: a large quantity of vaccine stored in refrigerators.
“Their expiration date is very fast, the last day of vaccination for them is July 9. Therefore, a special appeal is made to the nation and it is invited to come to be vaccinated as soon as possible, because the question is what more should be done with it ”, commented L. Antanavičienė on the challenges of vaccination in Israel .
