As the spokeswoman for the capital’s police, Julia Samorokovskaya, informed BNS, on Thursday at 4:43 p.m. the accident report was received at the intersection of Savanorių Avenue.
The rapporteur (born 1984) stated that her Volkswagen car had been hit by a Toyota car behind her and that its driver could be intoxicated.
“A field sobriety test of a Toyota driver found a drunkenness of 2.27 per thousand,” Samorokovskaya said.
He confirmed that Toyota was driven by V. Šmigelskas, 59.
After the accident, a Volkswagen driver was taken by ambulance to a medical institution for a medical examination and V. Šmigelskas was taken to the police station for several hours.
The police have launched a pre-trial investigation for driving under the influence.
V.Šmigleskas has been a member of the Seimas in 2000 and has previously been a member of the Vilnius City Council for several years.
Currently, V. Šmigelskas is running for the Seimas in the northern district of Sūduva and is ranked 30 on the list of candidates of the Social Democratic Labor Party.
BNS was unable to reach V.Šmigelskas on Friday.
