On Saturday, the Lithuanian team finally put an end to a long series of failures and gave their spectators a victory: the Lithuanians defeated the Bulgarian eleven 3: 1 in front of their fans.
At the start of the match, the captain of the team, Ernestas Šetkus, rejected the opponents’ 11-meter penalty, and then the Lithuanians were helped by a goal from Justas Lasickas and two goals from Fedor Černych.
“I think it is a well-deserved victory, how it has been achieved, it is even more gratifying. First we did not lose the goal, we had a real chance to reach the second goal later to be more calm, but it is a high-level match.
Bulgaria has very individual strong players, as in the first match they scored from a standard position. But all the team play, dedication was what we would all like.
There was a lot of excitement, but the victory is due to the players. We are happy not only with the three points, but also with the way they were achieved, ”said Lithuanian national team coach Valdas Ivanauskas after the match.
Asked to compare this selection window with the previous one in September, the strategist said that there are still good moments, but that they cannot be converted into goals and a positive result on the scoreboard.
“There was no result, there were no points, but we saw positive moments, perhaps with the exception of the game with Italy. The first two games had a more positive result, although without result. The players really wanted it, there was that dedication and posture because we were in a completely different situation.
That’s what the players felt, you saw how many opportunities we had and it’s rewarding. We have to show it in each game, the team has changed both emotionally and psychologically, if that desire and dedication continues, the same results can be expected in the future ”, shared V. Ivanauskas.
In the last window, he was unable to lead COVID-19 from the sideline due to infection, making it the first time he was able to be on the pitch during the match with the team.
When asked how to facilitate team management, next to the field or by phone, the specialist had an unequivocal answer.
“It really is easier in the square, I felt the pulse, the emotions, I saw what could be adjusted and on the phone it is more difficult.
I am happy with the whole team, no player has gone out of context today. We will have to analyze everything in more depth, but everyone did the hard work that gave us today’s result, ”said the coach.
Another challenge awaits the Lithuanians very soon: on Tuesday, the Lithuanian national team will meet a strong Swiss team at the LFF stadium.
The match will start at 21:45
