According to V.Čmilytė-Nielsen, two of the 54 MPs have been vaccinated before because they belong to the priority group of people who must be vaccinated due to their age.
“By the end of the week, we should have 77 Seimas vaccinated members, and 14 Seimas members have registered for another week. These are those Seimas members who, for one reason or another, or due to another vaccine received before, they just couldn’t get vaccinated this week. Therefore, by the beginning of next week, we should have 91 vaccinated Seimas members, “said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen on Thursday before the Seimas plenary session.
Is this a sufficient number for the Seimas to return to permanent “live” work?
According to the head of parliament, the Seimas seeks to work “live.” Therefore, it is possible that it will soon be possible to work quite safely. However, the question remains about the employees of the Seimas Chancellery, some of whom are not yet among those vaccinated against COVID-19.
Asked why the rest of the 141 members of the Seimas will not be vaccinated, V. Čmilytė-Nielsen explained that there are parliamentarians, it is true that they are a complete minority, who in principle are against vaccines and speak of conspiracy theories.
“It is natural that you are not vaccinated with them.” There are some, but they are actually a minority, so I do not consider them here as a large percentage, “he said.
