According to the prosecutor’s office, 22 Afghan military aircraft and 24 helicopters carrying a total of 585 military soldiers flew into Uzbek airspace on Saturday and Sunday.
“All the planes have been forced to land at Termez international airport” in the south of the country, near the border with Afghanistan, according to the report.
In addition, three Afghan light attack aircraft, the Embraer 314, were also directed to Termez and escorted by two Uzbek MiG-29 fighters, requesting permission to land at Chanabad airport. One of these planes collided with an Uzbek fighter plane and crashed in the southern province of Surchondarya. Both pilots of the plane were catapulted but seriously injured and hospitalized.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, another 158 Afghan citizens and soldiers illegally entered the territory of Uzbekistan, crossing the Amudarya River, which runs along the border between the two countries.
These incidents have led to criminal proceedings.
Earlier on Monday, several Afghan planes carrying more than 100 soldiers were reported to have landed in neighboring Tajikistan.
The incidents came under the collapse of the Western-backed Afghan government, whose forces failed to withstand a lightning-fast Taliban attack, ending the withdrawal of US-led foreign forces.
