Unexpectedly, the smugglers got into the Audi A6 and fell through the woods: they lost their cargo and a car during the traps.

The State Border Guard Service (SBGS) reports that on Thursday evening the officers of the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Pagėgiai Border Team and the Pagėgiai Team of the SBGS Special Purposes Division along with the Department employees of Security and Risk Management of AB Lietuvos Geležinkeliai verified preliminary information on illegal cargo.

After going to the Zabieliškis forest, located in the Kėdainiai district, SBGS officials noticed near the train tracks that a passing train was throwing packages. This freight train was traveling from Belarus and had to reach Klaipeda.

Three people along the railroad carried the dumped load to the Audi A6 in Lithuanian numbers. Seeing the approaching officers, the chargers jumped into the Audi A6 and collided at high speed.

Border guards began to pursue them, and a forced stop lane called a “hedgehog” was used to stop the runaway car.

The Audi A6 was soon seen in a nearby forest, about 1.5 km from the railway. In it, SBGS officials found 6,996 packages of Fest cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps. A police cynologist was used with a dog to search for the fugitives.

SBGS officials found another 5,500 packages of Fest cigarettes near the train tracks. A total of 12,496 packages of Fest cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were found during the operation. The value of such cargo in Lithuania with taxes is about 38 thousand. euros.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched at the Pagėgiai border team in relation to the illegal disposal of excise goods.

The Audi A6 and smokers are stored in the Pagėgiai border team.
