Klaipėda basketball players “Neptūnas” (1-0), who dominated most of the match, enjoyed themselves at the start of the King Mindaugas Cup (KMT) tournament.

At the end of the second quarter, Neptūnas released last season’s NKL players Matt Vaitkus, Noja Mineikis and Dovydas Romančenko, and CBet came close to the long break with 25 points (30:55).

After a long break, Neptūnas released the leading basketball players onto the field. After playing in the match for 26 minutes, Neptūnas’ lead reached the 30-point mark (66:36).

The second half of the match became a formality: although Jonava’s club won the last quarter 28:16 and reduced the difference to 15 points (89:74), Klaipėda residents celebrated an easy victory.

“Neptūnas” was led to victory by a tall tandem: Benas Griciūnas and Julius Jucikas.

Griciūnas scored 17 points (8/12 doubles, 1/1 penalty), 10 rebounds, 2 errors and 19 utility points in 16 minutes.

Jucikas scored 16 points (5/9 doubles, 1/1 trip, 3/4 penalty) in 23 minutes, bounced 8 balls, made 4 assists and scored 22 utility points.

Fines are being issued this season

Laimonas Kisielius did not save Jonaviškės from defeat. The captain scored 19 points (5/8 dvit., 3/6 trit.) In 29 minutes, he rebounded and took 2 balls, made 2 assists and scored 15 utility points.

Match summary:

The port city club played in this match without captain Martynas Mažeika and rookie Isaac Bontonas.

The return leg will take place on October 21 in Jonava.

In KMT groups, teams will play a two-wheel system (one home game and one away game). Teams with 1-2 places in each group advance to the third stage.

The teams that finish third in the groups will play two games against each other (one home game, the other away) and the team with the greatest difference between the points scored and lost in both games will advance to the third round.
