This message was made public in a Downing Strit report on Monday.

On Sunday, United States President Donald Trump said he would like to bring Russia back to the G-7 meetings and also add other countries to the format.

The American leader on Sunday called the Great Seven “a very old-fashioned group of countries.” He said he wanted to hold an extended format forum and invite Russia, South Korea, Australia and India.

The meeting was slated for a video conference in June, but Trump announced he would postpone the event and try to hold a live meeting of the leaders.

In naming the planned G-10 or G-11 event, D. Trump said he had already discussed the issue with the leaders of the four countries “in general terms.”

However, Moscow noted that it had not heard of the United States President’s proposal, stressing that it was not clear whether it was “official” at all.

“We do not know the details of this proposal,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

According to him, after D. Trump’s comments, a series of questions arose, for example, at what level will the additional states be represented and what will be the program of the event.

Peskov added that Russian President Vladimir Putin was in dialogue on all issues, but that he needed to hear “more information that we do not yet have” to respond to the proposal.

Russia was withdrawn from the G8 in 2014 after occupying the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine. Annexation is not recognized by the international community.

The economically developed countries of the G-7 (United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States) meet annually to discuss international economic coordination.

D. Trump previously said he supports Russia’s return to the G-7 club.
