The Lithuanian women’s basketball team walks down the glass path.
Under the leadership of Mantas Šernius, the team’s chances of entering the 2021 European Championship became very fragile after the second loss in Group E.
On Thursday in Istanbul, Gabija Meškonytė and Laura Juškaitė each scored 15 points, and Justė Jocytė, 14, added 6.
The Lithuanian team scored points: Gabija Meškonytė (7/11 dvit.) And Laura Juškaitė (5 cameras intercepted, 5 errors) after 15, Gintarė Petronytė and Eglė Šikšniūtė after 9, Kamilė Nacickaitė 7, Justė Jocytė and Laura Miškinienė (10 rev. Ch.) After 6, Gabrielė Šulskė 4 (5th ed.).
By the way, it coincided so much that while J. Jocyte was in the square for 14 minutes, the Lithuanians scored 20 points more than the Serbs.
However, the Lithuanian team made a mistake up to 22 times, and during the match they got into two deep holes: 0:17 in the second half and 0:13 in the third.
Already midway through the second half, the Lithuanians, who were 19 points behind, stalled in attack, scoring just 3 of three points out of 15 during the match.
The Serbs made 10 of 24 long shots, three times from distance, with the most successful players Aleksandra Crvendakič (19 points) and Sonja Vasič (15). The naturalized American Yvonne Anderson, who debuted with the Serbian national team, scored 13 points and had 7 assists.
Since 2015, Lithuanians have not been included in the European championships, which have been lost only once since the beginning of the restoration of independence (2003), and in 1997 they won gold.
Now in the group E selection competition our team is still third.
In the first match, the Lithuanian basketball players crushed Albania 108: 43 in Kėdainiai, but then lost 51:74 to Turkey and now to Serbia.
The best Serbian basketball players in the group have beaten Turkey 59:56 and crushed Albania by 105 points (139: 34) to announce their absence from the playoffs.
Due to the pandemic, FIBA grouped the competition in several cities in November, and the Lithuanians had to travel to the “bubble” of Istanbul. The Turks with the Serbs will continue to play there on Saturday.
The winners of nine groups and the top five teams in second place will move up to the 2021 European Championship, so Lithuania’s remaining matches in February next year at home with Turkey and away with Serbia may not be saved.
Although there are no superstars in both teams, the Serbian team became European champions in 2015 and won bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2019 European Championships.
The match will take place in Istanbul starting at 5 pm. permanent 15 minutes portal.
