In January this year, in the Klaipėda district, Gargždai, after breaking the glass in the front door of the car and opening the engine cover, the headlights of a Volvo car were stolen and the damage was estimated at 300 euros.
Two similar robberies were also committed in Klaipeda: here Volvo’s long-fingered cars stole the headlights; in one case, the owners estimated the damage at 1,045 euros, in another, up to 4,250 euros. Officials from the Property Crimes Investigation Board soon arrested a 25-year-old man who had already been convicted of robbery for allegedly committing the crimes.
In May, in the port city, on Turgaus Street, the owner of a luxury car “Porsche” was also hit with a long finger; both car headlights were also stolen here. The car’s owner told officials that he had suffered a loss of 5,333 euros, because the car was still damaged when the headlights were removed.
Officials promptly identified and detained 35 Klaipėda residents convicted of theft, robbery and other crimes. He was charged with damaging or destroying someone else’s property and theft.
