Two opposition factions in the Seimas will soon sign an agreement, the Social Democrats – overboard

Saulius Skvernelis, a member of the “peasant” faction, mentioned last week that the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union and the Labor Party factions in the Seimas will seek to unite and sign an agreement on joint activities.

“We probably have a formal agreement with at least one group,” he said.

But it will not be possible to reach a written agreement with the Social Democrats, at least for the moment.

“They certainly won’t sign any formal agreements until there is a president, but once the president is elected, I hope we get back to that issue,” Skvernel said.

Algirdas Sysas, the eldest of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) faction in the Seimas, confirmed this.

“We are cooperating, but we will not sign an opposition agreement. We will not formalize. And this is how we communicate, we communicate today,” commented A. Sys.

The issue of formalizing the cooperation of the opposition, he said, will return after the election of the president of the LSDP, which will take place at the end of April.

V. Yukna, the eldest of the Labor Party faction, expressed the hope that an agreement on joint action with the “peasants” would soon be reached during the spring session.

“I am optimistic that maybe even earlier, without waiting for the end of the session or the middle of it, we can formalize the agreement,” he said.

V. Jukna did not want to detail the content of the agreement, whether only the works, the presentation of joint projects, or perhaps a joint leader will be discussed.

“It just came to our knowledge then. They talk about both certain works and other conditions. Soon it will be possible to name it. When we agree, it will be possible to make it public,” said the “employee.”

After the “peasant” and “worker” factions formed a coalition, they could elect a coalition leader who would be considered the opposition leader of the Seimas.

The leader of the opposition enjoys additional rights and belongs to the Board of the Seimas.
