It is planned for 17.89 million in Vilnius. build two new bus parks in Liepkalnis and Pilaitė, abandon the old one in Verkiai.

The municipality of Vilnius and its company Vilnius Public Transport are currently negotiating an agreement under which the municipality would commit to installing two new parks by December 2023.

“A project is being presented to the City Council, according to which we will move the plot with buildings on Verkių street to the municipality, we will build new bus fleets in Liepkalnis and Pilaitės avenue. Everything is practically planned: on Liepkalnio street, the territory borders the airport, and the next plot is near the Western Bypass, leading to Pilaitė, at the Department of State Security, ”said Rimantas Markauskas, General Director of Public Transport of Vilnius .

Currently, the company operates a fleet of trolley buses in Antakalnis, a fleet of buses in Verkiai and a mixed fleet of trolley buses and buses in Viršuliškės. According to the company director, when the fleet of buses and trolleybuses merged in 2011, the Verkiai administrative building was half empty and no tenants appear.

According to him, the Verkiai bus fleet, which currently occupies around 9.5 ha, was built in 1964, when the Žirmūnai district did not yet exist, this place was mainly on the road, and is now densely urbanized, and the residents receive noise complaints. ., the workshops here are no longer suitable for new oversized buses.

Another reason is that, in the future, part of the park’s territory must be handed over to the municipality when planning the construction of Calle Norte, which runs from the east to the west of the city. According to R. Markauskas, this would deprive the company of space for about 100 buses.

According to him, the new parks would occupy about 13 ha (about 10 ha in Liepkalnis and 2.7 ha in Pilaitė), they would allow to plan routes more economically, because, unlike what happens today, buses only They could pick up passengers after leaving the parks. .

“There are many routes from the station district, in Naujininkai, they serve southbound, and we will expand Viršuliškės park, which we now have, and it will serve the entire west-north side with this territory. That is, early, from 4 to 5 pm in the morning, buses will not have to travel long empty distances to start transporting passengers. Now that there is a park in Verkiai, there is a lot of empty driving to go around the city and start transporting passengers ”, he said.

“Our main base would be in Liepkalnis, serious repairs would be carried out. Current repairs could also be in other parks,” added R. Markauskas.

As the mayor’s advisor Karolis Vaitkevičius told BNS, discussions on this issue are still ongoing in council committees.

“The issue is very important, there will still be discussions in the committees, so the discussion of the issue in the council was postponed. The development of the territory itself will also be widely discussed with the participation of interested groups, ”said K. Vaitkevičius.
