“Russia’s attack on the Syrian National Army Training Center in the Idlib region shows that it does not want lasting peace in the region,” Rdrdogan said on television.
A Turkish military plane was hit Monday by a Turkish-backed militant training center in northwestern Syria’s Idlib province, near the Turkish border.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which monitors the war in Syria, has said 78 militants were killed in the attack. It is the deadliest incident since the ceasefire was declared nearly eight months ago.
The Turkish group Faylaq al Sham retaliated by killing at least 15 Moscow-backed militants, the SOHR said.
Sunni Islamist Faylaq al Sham acted as Turkey’s envoy during several Turkish military campaigns on Syrian territory. From this group there are also mercenaries who support Ankara sent to fight in Libya.
The ceasefire announced earlier this year stopped a Russian-backed attack on the Syrian regime that killed more than 500 civilians and forced nearly a million people to flee their homes.
It was one of the biggest humanitarian crises during the nine years of Syrian civil war.
The last major rebel stronghold occupies about half of Idlib province and neighboring provinces.
