Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla warned on Friday that both mobile and fixed checkpoints would be operating at the borders of municipalities across the country.
True, as with the above restrictions, it is possible to move between ring municipalities and metropolitan areas, travel for work, travel to or from airports and seaports and bus stations, and for other important reasons.
However, R. Požėla suggested that residents check with officials before the trip, whether the purpose of their trip can really be considered legitimate.
“I appeal to all residents to ask for conscience, and if someone really needs to go, if there are any questions about the legality of the trip, then the police number has been made public and please call, consult – find out immediately if it is legal or not, ”said the police commissioner.
According to him, if people keep going and are detained, these problems will already be addressed at the checkpoints. “We will try to solve the problems in good faith, and if there are malicious situations, attempts by people to abuse and deceive, in this case, unfortunately, a policy of administrative sanctions will have to be applied,” said R. Požėla.
According to the General Commissioner of Police, priority will be given to tourist areas, and officials will also pay attention to other quarantine violations, such as meetings in public places, youth meetings in supermarkets, etc.
He also appealed to the public once again for awareness and initiative to inform police officers about the parties taking place in private spaces. A police spokesman emphasized that when they noticed the gatherings on the balconies themselves or listened to loud music, the officers immediately reacted to the situation and knocked on the door.
“We will wait for the reports from the neighbors and proactively, let’s say, passing by the residential house, if we hear noise, loud music, we gather people on the balcony, we stop, we enter, we check. If violations are identified, we will take appropriate measures, ”noted R. Požėla.
The police commissioner said a lot of capacity would be needed. Earlier this week, police officers will try to take care of themselves with an additional burden, but will turn to the social partners – the interior and military structures for the festive period.
The government renewed on Friday the restriction of circulation between municipalities until April 6 inclusive due to the threat of spread of COVID-19.
In Lithuania, restrictions on movement were introduced in mid-December, and from March 16 until now they were only valid in municipalities with the worst epidemiological situation.
