An eight-month pregnant woman fell in the Maldives while she and her husband were resting at the Intercontinental Resort on Mamunagau Island.
The woman is reported to have disappeared on February 13, a day after the couple stayed at the hotel. The man explains that at first they both rested by the hotel pool, and then G. Vaškytė decided to go to the beach alone and disappeared.
After a five-day search, the local police concluded that the Lithuanian woman had probably drowned, but family members disagreed with the account and the man thought she had been abducted. “That is why we announced a $ 100,000 reward for information on her whereabouts or for helping her find her,” said Uday Singh, who introduced himself as a relative.
“She is a great swimmer and, of course, an athlete. It is impossible to drown in the shallow waters of the Maldives. And even if he had drowned, his body would have been lifted in a few days, “he added.
Local police said the woman had been searched for five days by a Maldivian army, police and hotel staff. The area was explored from the air, the divers worked.
“Our investigation team has gathered strong evidence to believe that it has sunk at sea and we have no evidence to suggest otherwise,” said police officials.
