Most interesting format
At the end of the week, the music played again near the house of Juozas Gruodis. True, not the one created by one of the most famous interwar personalities of the time. Those who know the history of music know that the composer was intensely interested in old Lithuanian folk music: monody and polyphonic conventions often harmonized them, and finally created an individual style from moderately modern means of expression and elements. of Lithuanian folk music. At the initiative of space X, which opened in the M. and K. Petrauskai department of the Kaunas City Museum, on Thursday rocks and metals roared next to the famous medinukas, and chairs and seat bags waited in line on the grass.
“Space X before quarantine received a lot of interest and participants. As a result, we decided that the summer season needed a more interesting format. Because we are a museum, we are looking for connections with prominent personalities from the past.” The house, built in 1932, is reminiscent of a wooden mansion and the surrounding nature has a unique aura that will give new colors to our events “, – while the guests of the night were veterans of the rock and metal scene, representatives of the club “Lemmy” coordinated the team, the team of space coordinators from the Kaunas City X Museum invited to visit the two floors, where J.Gruodis once lived and worked.
Excursion around the house.
Before climbing the stairs, we turn around the house. It was once surrounded by a garden designed by the composer and his wife Stase. The original collections of the museum have conserved a plan drawn in pencil, in which the composer has marked all the trees and their varieties. Apples still grow here and bear fruit so sweet that the fallen seem to be picked up by the outcasts. The story of the creator in the courtyard is still told by a giant fir, which every year looks more like a pine.
“Before Christmas, J.Gruodis’ wife hugged her with colored lights and ran every five minutes to see if the tree was on fire,” Kaunas City Museum educator Jurgita Ragaišienė promised to tell stories still more interesting in its pages, than S.Gruodienė.
J.Gruodis really liked living in his room the way he wanted.
After crossing the threshold, we turned left, into a small room where J.Gruodis’s wife had previously lived. It is true that this space is now full of historical documents, and several of the composer’s objects are presented there, for example, in 1917. I bought a suitcase. Opposite Mrs. Stase’s room is a living room where spouses receive guests. The educator Jurgita said that Gruodžiai was very hospitable, so everyone who entered the table was seated and satiated.
“J.Gruodis really liked living in his room as he wanted. If it was hot like today, he could walk quite naked. When the guest S.Gruodien arrived, he accepted this, sat at the table and at that moment J. Gruodis got dressed. Not only clean, and in casual clothes “, – J. Ragaišienė spoke about the strangeness of the composer.
After the museum was installed in the house, the living room was restored, which was visited by renowned luminaries of the time, such as Balys Dvarionas. There is still a tiled stove, a rug, a table with four chairs, cabinets with various glass stemware and coffee mugs, a mirror painted with plant motifs, and an old kettle – a samovar.
It was very tolerant
On the ground floor there was a kitchen and a pantry where food was stored. There is also a small separate room for a maid. The museologist said that a young Jew worked for Gruodžiai at the same time.
“Her last name was Lithuanian and her appearance was no different than anyone else’s. The girl is strong, graduated from the Institute of Physical Education. Only Stasele was struck by the strange sound of” r “. At that time, the composer He replied: You came to us with normal documents, you will be successful in continuing your work “, – J.Ragaišienė said that J.Gruodis was very tolerant and never divided people according to their nationality, religion or hobbies.
The composer of the latter had infinite. Perhaps his strongest passion for lightning was manifested. That’s what J.Gruodis’s mother called a motorcycle.
“Stasel didn’t like a motorcycle, either. This is a man who gets kicked by a horse, doesn’t turn around. J.Gruodis once persuaded her to sit in a thunderstorm. One fell to one side and the other on the other side. After him, the fingers of both hands broke for the composer.
With a wand he hit the ground and Stasele appeared. Just don’t think he was some kind of terrorist or monster.
The wife was invited with a wand.
The second floor, which houses the largest and most important room in this house, the composer’s office, tells more about the life of J. Gruodis. In it, J.Gruodis created, played, and accepted students, because he believed that science opens all doors. Mrs. Stace rarely appeared on the second floor. If something were needed, the developer would call it with a conventional sign.
“With a stick, he hit the floor and Stasel came. Just don’t think he was a terrorist or a monster. That was Gruodiene’s desire to protect her husband’s talent. Gruodis also took great care of his wife, but she did not allow it. For example, J.Gruodis went to the sanitarium and S.Gruodienė suffered from severe angina. She did not want to write to her husband who was ill. She knew she would return home. She wandered down the hall.
There is a portrait of J. Gruodis painted by his wife. The walls of the composer’s room are also hung with photos and paintings. For example, in one: J.Gruodis with a dog. In the other, in the car. The room still has a piano, velvet armchairs, and a bed, often with a goat. There was also a composer’s desk with always-ready sheet music and a radio.
“If Gruodžiai had had a large family, they probably would have bought five cows. But they had the opportunity to buy a radio and listen to the concert broadcast from the State Theater, they did it successfully. They listened to the radio and invited other neighbors.” Looking at the strange device on the table, young people these days think it is a microwave.
“So was the composer …” – at the end of the walk, the tour guide invited me to sit outside and listen to rock and metal, and if there is a wish, visit J.Gruodis again.
