Once again, one of the most anticipated events in Europe is approaching: the Eurovision Song Contest. Although intensive fights for the ticket to the big competition are taking place in Vilnius at that time, this year the LRT halls are very empty, you will not see as many famous faces here as before. And all this, not just because of quarantine restrictions.
15 minutes Lithuanian artists interviewed revealed why they decided to miss out on this year’s competition.
He has tried his luck at Eurovision more than once Jurgis Brūzga 15 minutes He says he didn’t have a solid Eurovision song this year, but thoughts of returning to the scene next year keep popping into his head. However, this year is not the only reason why we did not see J. Brūzga in the national teams.
“I know that for many artists, this is not the time when they can afford to spend and think about a great show. If you want to present yourself seriously at Eurovision, not only to show yourself, but also to participate in the race, you need a clip, dancers and clothes … It really costs a lot ”, admits the singer.
J. Brūzga also cites the still unclear situation regarding quarantine restrictions as a major reason for not participating this year. After all, it is still unclear in what format Eurovision will take place.
“Then there are questions about what you will get after going to the big Eurovision. I highly doubt that it will be the way it was before: either there will be no spectators, or there will be very few of them, there are really many uncertainties. A more serious performer would like all the experience, because it is not the same to act in an empty arena ”, he says.
Even if you are determined to close your eyes to financial difficulties, artists may find it difficult to rehearse during this period. “You cannot film a clip, it would not be legal to do so, because we will definitely have to spend time with more than one household. Then there are also thoughts on how to do it safely,” says the singer.
The interpreter admits that he also doubted the decision of the LRT to organize the selection in general, when “The Roop” was already recognized as the best last year. “I think they have the privilege of representing Lithuania. I saw their clip, they work very professionally, you can see that they like the work”, – J. Brūzga does not greet his colleagues.

He broke the record for performances in the Lithuanian national teams. Aistė Pilvelytė chides J. Brūzga for the fact that “The Roop” should go to Rotterdam this year.
“Anyone who wants to can perform this year, but there is no talk of winning. I think The Roop had to travel to Eurovision without being selected, directly to the final. It was just strange to me that this did not happen. I will be very supportive of them this year. I continued. thinking what kind of tragedy had happened to them; those thoughts even shook me.
What Vaidotas Valiukevičius went through, what his family went through … It was probably very difficult for him. But for me, he is a winner in every way, so this year he would open the way to Eurovision for his group ”, says the interpreter.
It is true that the decision not to participate this year was not only determined by this. According to A. Pilvelytė, art people do little to decide, because creative inspiration comes or not.
“You may simply not have planned to understand that a song came to you or was born, that it should be heard in Lithuania, and perhaps in Europe. It can be planned, but most of the time it happens spontaneously, you cannot plan your work” says Aistė.

Give a slightly more interesting reason for not participating in Eurovision. Tomas Alenčikas-Alen Chicco. The guy says he didn’t even know the selection was happening.
“I thought there would be no Eurovision at all, so I was not interested in anything,” he admits. However, as they say, even knowing that he would hardly have been involved as he has anticipated other plans this year.
“In any case, in my opinion, The Roop has to go to Eurovision this year. It is strange that LRT organizes the selection”, Alen Chicco is surprised.

Interpreter artists or executants Mios Pilibaitytės We did not appear in this year’s national teams either, although he has participated here 4 times. 15 minutes The woman assures that this decision is not surprising, since she had previously promised not to participate in Eurovision.
“It seems useless to participate. I already participated 4 times, I experienced adrenaline, I already know what is happening there, it no longer makes sense ”, he says.
It is true, closing the door to the popular contest Mia does not swear. “If I knew I had a good song, that I would go through walls with it, I would definitely participate. But participating to remind the listener about me one more time … It’s a good intention, but this time I refrain from that participation, ”says Mia.

Last year, the second place remained Monique He also did not appear in this year’s selections. 15 minutes the girl interviewed assures that this year she simply did not have time for that.
Right now I’m focused on the recordings for the new album and haven’t even considered entering the competition. I wish The Roop and the other participants good luck, ”says Monique.

Eurovision fans also missed singer Monika Marija in this year’s selection. She admits that the decision was driven by the quarantine and uncertainties about what show to expect, whether or not enough viewers will gather.
“If there is quarantine, it is logical that part of the fun of Eurovision disappears,” says the singer.

And artists Jurgis Didžiulis and Erica Jennings spoke about the fact that they will no longer participate in the Eurovision selections in 2019.
The singers, who had previously taken the stage with the song “Sing”, made most of them smile, but they came fourth in the final. Immediately after the selection, the two said that they would no longer participate in the competition, as there were many questions about transparency during Eurovision.
“If we choose the one who will represent Lithuania, we want higher standards of transparency in the selection, which would ensure that artists even more enthusiastic about their visions and creations continue to participate,” said J. Džižiulis earlier in the video posted.
