Arvydas Novikovas, who returned to the national team after the break, scored two goals for our team, Gratas Sirgėdas added one.
The last time we won two matches in a row was six years ago, when in autumn 2014, under the leadership of Igor Pankratjev, they defeated San Marino (2: 0) and Estonia itself (1: 0) away.
The Tallinn match was the Lithuanians’ last and only rehearsal before the upcoming Nations League battles at home with the teams from Belarus and Albania.
The Lithuanians last scored three goals in a match just nine years ago, when they also defeated the Armenians in a 3: 0 friendly match in Kaunas.
The Estonian footballers started the game more actively. The first serious foul on our goal came in the 7th minute, after Georgi Tunjovo’s Tomas Švedkauskas struck the left side of the game. Pavel Marinas was the first to try to hit the ball, but his shot was blocked at the last moment by Edvinas Girdvainis.
In the 13th minute, the Lithuanians also fired the most dangerous first shot towards the home goal. After a rebound, Grato Sirgėdas was captured by Estonian goalkeeper Metvei Igonen.
After a couple of minutes, the Lithuanians raised their hands. Justas Lasickas made a great pass to Arvydas Novikov and was one of the defenders. The Erzurumspor rookie has still tried to transfer Donatas Kazlauskas, but was unable to do so. However, the ball rebounded comfortably towards A. Novikov himself and after his shot the ball flew into the Estonian goal net – 1: 0.
After this goal, the image in the square did not change. The Estonians were more often with the ball, but the Lithuanians counterattacked much more dangerously. 32 minutes played of the game. Egidijus Vaitkūnas came within a hair of putting his team ahead, but his fierce shot from the left wing skimmed the strain of the post. After Donato Kazlauskas’s touch, the ball bounced off the crossbar, but Gratas Sirgėdas, who was the first to run towards it, doubled their lead – 2: 0.
Immediately after this episode, the Estonians also sent the ball into our goal, but the match referee registered a sideline.
In the 43rd minute, the Lithuanians had a great opportunity to score the third goal. Gratas Sirgėdas led Justas Lasickas alone against the goalkeeper, but the defender hit the Estonian directly.
As soon as the second half began, the hosts returned to get the ball out of their goal. Arvydas Novikovas, who burst into the penalty area, received a good pass from Donatas Kazlauskas and realized his chance with confidence – 3: 0.
Paguodos’ goal to make it 0 – 1 came from a questionable penalty, but Pavelas Marinas scored without a second thought.
Rytisiai forward Gytis Paulauskas debuted in the second half of the Lithuanian national team, Paulius Golubickas, representing Gorica, returned to the national team after injury and a break, Markas Beneta and Martynas Dapkus.
