According to Culture Minister S. Kairis, the promises of the previous term rulers that the national concert hall will be able to function as early as 2023, when Vilnius is celebrating its 700th anniversary, had no real basis.
“There was a lot of talk about such plans, but unfortunately my team and I came to work and encountered a completely different situation: industry resistance, a completely vague and unclear vision, fundamental questions unanswered. I had to rearrange the whole concept of the project like a puzzle. I would like to thank the new working group, which in just a few months helped achieve a breakthrough in the history of this complex and ambitious project, ”said the Minister of Culture.
The future “House of the Nation” will fill a huge void in Lithuanian cultural life so far: it will become a modern space for classical music concerts. Therefore, the great room of the House of the Nation will be dedicated mainly to music that requires natural acoustics. Other activities planned for this hall include jazz music concerts, limited stage opera events and other events of a similar format, which may be combined with the hall’s main function.
In the small hall of the National Concert Hall, priority will be given to theater and dance activities. Activities, congresses and conferences on contemporary circus and other performing arts are also planned here. The third room of the House of the Nation will have three main functions: communication, education and exhibition spaces.
It was decided to install a rehearsal room in the future complex. This decision was made after considering that the rehearsal room would allow maximum use of the great room for events, as well as providing the opportunity for multiple orchestras to work in the complex at the same time.
According to the Minister of Culture, in the near future the issue of the governance model of the House of the Nation will be addressed. Since there is no performing arts center of a similar nature in Lithuania, the possibilities of establishing a legal entity dedicated to both the implementation of the investment project and the cultural activities of the center in the future will be evaluated.
The next important step is the technical project, which will be completed in 2022. second half of the year and will allow all final decisions to be made. All funds required up to this period are insured.
“We have to realize that we will not build this object for several years, not even once. Therefore, the future operator of the concert hall will face a great challenge and at the same time a significant mission: to act democratically, responding to the needs and realities of the cultural field, maintaining a high poster of events here worthy of the Nation. House ”, said the Minister of Culture.
The authors of the National Concert Hall project are the Spanish architectural firm Arquivio arquitectos, and the acoustics project will be executed by the Japanese company Nagata Acoustics.
