According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, until February 21. for around 300 thousand. The country’s workers were asked for subsidies to offset their wages.
Starting this year, employers will be reimbursed for all wages accrued and paid to the employee during downtime, but not more than 1.5 times the monthly minimum wage (MMA), that is, € 963 “in paper “, or about € 650 by hand (last year the subsidies were even lower).
If, under normal circumstances, your salary is higher and has been reduced for at least some time due to quarantine and downtime, then the maternity, paternity or childcare benefit awarded to Sodra will also be less. Future pensions should also be reduced slightly.
Population losses can range from a few to 1.5 thousand. euros or more per year.
How much money can you lose
Malgožata Kozič, Chief Specialist of the Communication Department of Sodra, explained that the amount of maternity, paternity and childcare benefits is calculated on the basis of the insured income of a person who receives during the 12 months prior to the month prior to the right to receive the benefit.
“If the mother or father was depressed during that period, the income received during the downtime is taken into account when calculating the benefit amount.
Whether the benefit amount will change as a result of the downtime depends on what the parents received before the downtime and how much the employer paid during the downtime. If the income has decreased during the evaluation period, the profit will also decrease ”, commented M. Kozič.
As an example, he cited a woman who gave birth to a child in February and would like to take parental leave for up to a year.
In this case, 77.58 percent is paid. childcare allowance equal to the amount of compensatory income. For this mother, the parental leave would start in April and the parental benefit would be calculated according to 2020. March – 2021 Insured income for March.
Suppose a woman has been paid around € 1,240 in the last year, but due to quarantine in 2020. She was in downtime in March, April and May and during that period she was paid an MMA salary of 607 euros.
In that case, the childcare benefit, calculated on the basis of 12-month insured earnings, would amount to around € 838 before tax per month.
If a woman received a standard salary of 1,240 euros for the full 12 months, the amount of the childcare benefit would be around 962 euros before tax: 124 euros per month or 1,488 euros per year more.
“Of course, it should be remembered that this is only a very general model of the hypothetical situation, and the amount of maternity, paternity and childcare benefits is calculated on a case-by-case basis,” a Sodra spokeswoman warned.
Benefits will increase, pensions will be less
Edita Banienė, Head of the Communication Division of the Ministry of Social Security and Labor, reported that amendments to the law are currently being prepared that provide for the alternative calculation of compensatory earnings for insured persons whose time off has been declared and the period of time of absence (or part of it) falls within the period of calculation of the benefit.
“This also applies to the self-employed whose income has been reduced due to a quarantine or an emergency. As the projects are still being prepared, the fundamental principles of the changes are being discussed until now,” commented the president.
According to her, the granting of a pension takes into account pension insurance contributions paid in the very long term (for life).
A change in insured income over a short period of time (for example, several months of quarantine and downtime) is said to have no significant effect on the amount of pensions.
E. Banienė calculated that the average resident, having reached retirement age, has acquired about 37 years of experience.
If this person has worked for an average salary during their lifetime, they will have acquired 37 units of pension account (AV) on the anniversary of retirement age.
If such a person in 2021. would be in downtime for 6 months and would receive a payment of 1.5 MMA for the downtime, which would result in 0.86 AV per calendar year instead of 1 AV, that is, the number total VA would be 36.86 (a decrease of 0.14 VA).
In monetary terms, it would now be € 0.58 per month (AV value in 2021 is € 4.17).
Thus, it would amount to almost 7 euros per year. As AVs are indexed annually, the amount of pension not received would increase each year.
