Organizers note that July this year has been the hottest since 1961, but there is no place to cool off and hide from the sun as there are no trees. The organizers do not spare the criticism of the capital city and accuse it of cutting down most of the old trees in the city.

“We had to be content with the fog in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, with decorative trees in the main streets of the city or simply with the gray asphalt,” says the report.

Although the Vilnius City Municipality has repeatedly explained in its press releases and comments that cutting down trees in certain places is necessary due to their age and certain infrastructure nuances, and even more new plants are being planted on felled trees than before, the rally organizers feel unheard of.

“This time we come with slogans and drums, wanting to defend what has been destroyed for too long. This time we asked – “Where did the trees go?” – write the organizers of the protest.

The rally organizers urged participants to wear protective masks and keep a safe distance.
