Residents of the city of Dieveniškės, Šalčininkai district, do not retire. During the day, they are on duty at the building, which is expected to house around half a thousand illegal immigrants. As long as residents hold out, border guards must accommodate illegal immigrants in their administrative buildings.
A pregnant woman with two children was lodged in a building under repair under the noses of the people of Dieveniškės, which was being repaired. Her husband was diagnosed with coronavirus.
“It had to be isolated, but there are no such premises in the firewall, because they fill up with illegal immigrants every day, they are already in the official premises. Another option was chosen for the facilities that the border guards have in Dieveniškės themselves, ”said Giedrius Mišutis, representative of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS).
Border guards no longer know where to isolate people who have arrived in Lithuania.
“Currently, all possible locations are overcrowded. There are no places both in the municipalities and in our subdivisions. Not to mention the firebreaks, but also the border school dormitory, which is already full, ”said G. Mišutis.
The residents of Dieveniškės interacted with the pregnant migrant, but realized that a woman does not have a man. And they already took him to the hospital from the firewall.
City residents fear that illegal immigrants will be allowed to freely walk around the city.
Others fear that more illegal immigrants than residents will be brought to Dieveniškės.
“What will it be? They will crush us,” said a resident of Dieveniškės.
People also don’t believe the government’s promises that migrants will only live here until September.
“How are you until September 1? If you put money into something, it definitely won’t be for a month,” thought Irina Dogli, a resident of Dieveniškės.
The locals say that they will be next to the school as long as they need it.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Now they pass through the villages. And when will you come to us? They are old and lonely,” said a local LNK resident.
Another said he was convinced that illegal immigrants would not be accommodated in Dieveniškės.
“It’s definitely not a place for that, it’s not a solution,” he said.
According to the authorities, Dieveniškės was chosen as a logistically convenient location due to the nearby border barrier. In the absence of negotiations with the population, the Government will continue to examine the issue.
