“The challenge of the coronavirus has led to a greater focus on hygiene, avoiding frequently touched surfaces, which certainly includes ATMs and cash. On the other hand, given these circumstances, the financial sector increased the payment limit from contactless cards from € 25 to € 50 in spring, creating even more opportunities to use this modern and secure tool, ”said Aidas Budrys, Acting President of the LBA.
In the second quarter of this year, the number of card purchase transactions increased by 3% and the turnover of settlements by 15%: from 1.85 billion. up to 2.13 billion euros. The average amount spent on a card payment has increased: this year it reached 21.6 euros (a year ago, 19.4 euros). In total, the population uses 3.1 million. debit and credit cards issued by banks operating in Lithuania.
The LBA remembers that a payment card is the same as a wallet. Therefore, the personal card and its data must be stored carefully and not shared. When contacting the resident on their own initiative, bank and government officials, law enforcement officials will never require the disclosure of a PIN or other confidential data, so when you receive a call with such a request, you should be vigilant: it may be an attempted scam.
