The works will be carried out in accordance with the current agreement between the Lithuanian Highway Administration, under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the group of joint ventures, which is made up of UAB Maniga and UAB Tiltuva. The contract price determined at the time of public procurement is 4.83 million euros. with VAT, according to a press release from the Highway Administration.

“The installation of speed control and warning systems is an important part of the reconstruction strategy of the A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda motorway in accordance with the requirements for motorways. This is one of the most congested transport arteries of Lithuanian national importance, therefore we strive to ensure not only convenient but also secure communication on this road, ”says Vitalijus Andrejevas, Head of the Highway Administration.

Speed and warning control systems consist of electronic variable information signals, meteorological sensors that record the state of the road surface, temperature, wind force and other parameters, as well as traffic flow analysis equipment that calculates the traffic flows at specific locations on the road.

Variable information traffic signs are one of the main devices of this system that act as video screens. They will display the speed limit and road warning signs, and inform road users of changes in weather conditions. Systems that receive data from these devices will “decide” on speed limits, and road users will be informed immediately.

The Traffic Information Center of the Highway Administration will warn participants about traffic, traffic accidents or other obstacles.

The first speed warning and control system of this type was introduced in Lithuania in 2014. at the Jakai roundabout in Klaipeda. 2020 According to the data, 34 speed warning and control systems have been installed in Lithuania.
