Theater director Povilas Gaidys died

From 1963 to 1998 he worked as an actor and director at the Klaip Klada Drama Theater, after which he directed it for three years.

From 2001 to 2016, P. Gaidys was the artistic director of the theater.

The director has created more than 80 performances.

He was awarded the LSSR State Award in 1979, received the Officer Cross of the Order of Gediminas in 2002 and the Golden Stage Cross in 2014.

From 1971 to 1995, P. Gaidys taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music at the Klaipėda faculties, and since 1995 at the Klaipėda University.

In his youth, P. Gaidys himself studied at the Department of Acting Masters of the Vilnius Conservatory, then studied at the A. Lunačiarskis Theater Institute of Art and at the Moscow Directing Faculty.

The president expressed his condolences.

The President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, expressed his condolences on the death of the actor and director of the Klaipėda Povilas Gaidis Drama Theater.

“Povilas Gaidys was one of the great directors of Lithuanian theater, with his departure not only ends the entire era of the Klaipėda Dramatic Theater, but also an important page in the history of the entire Lithuanian Dramatic Theater. He assembled one of the most creative theater groups in Lithuania, constantly formed its mature repertoire, and launched multi-actor shows for the theater. It was thanks to P. Gaidis that the hearts of Klaipėda residents (and the entire Lithuanian public) were touched by the high-quality art of theater. Diana and I were also impressed and grateful to the spectators of the theater directed by P. Gaidis ”, the owner of the country writes with sympathy.
